A Mambot is a type of plugin that works behind the scenes. It performs some useful function such as modifying content before display, extending the site search to cover additional types of content or adding to the core functionality. There are a number of hooks that trigger Mambots for a variety of purposes.

Mambo provides a number of Mambots in the core distribution.

Mambo uses five types of Mambots:

  • content: - these Mambots manipulate or extend the functionality of the Content functions of Mambo.
  • editors: -  editor Mambots are used within Mambo to provide easy editing of site content.  These Mambots include the MOStlyCE editor and the NO-WYSIWYG editor Mambots.
  • editors-xtd: - these Mambots extend the functionality of the WYSIWYG editors that are used with Mambo.
  • search: -  these Mambots provide the search functionality used within Mambo.
  • system: - system Mambots provide essential functions within the Mambo content management system.  Because these Mambots are needed  by Mambo you are not provided with options for unpublishing or uninstalling them.
NOTE: There are also a number of 3rd party Mambots that extend Mambo's functionality, and each will have a description of what it will do.
